A TOUR OF THE DOWNSTAIRS AREA OF THE SHOP

This is a corner of the front room in the shop
we have fourteen tenants and each one is differant to the other. It makes for a really varied choice of goods. we have a mix of vintage, retro, industrial and upstairs we have mini boutiques of handmade items from local artisans. We are also awaiting some lovely items we have ordered from other sources.

some fun rings that 'Salvage Street' makes
and some jars made into sewing caddys with bobbins inside and a pincushion on top

and my favourite spindle bugs these are so cute and very cleverly made from recycled items
each one is unique and they sell out very quickly!

some retro items from phil's room
He is our main stockist of retro and one day a piece of his furniture will be in the shop long enough for me to photograph it to show you!

I hope you will visit us if you are in Hobart we assure you of a warm welcome and a
taste of good old fashioned service!
and I'll take you on a tour upstairs next time!

MY NEW SHOP

Since I last posted I have opened a new shop!
A real bricks and mortar shop
at 133a Newtown Road. Newtown.Hobart.Tasmania
The front room has beautiful pressed tin ceilings and four chandeliers!!!!
It has 2 of these amazing arched windows!!
There are three more rooms downstairs
and wait for it............
This is upstairs, a gorgeous wooden floor, attic/loft atmosphere
and the piece of machinery on the ceiling is the original hoist that was used by the baker who first had the building to hoist up sacks of flour and grain.
lots of character to start with and that's without any stock!
now lots of room needs lots of stock,so enlist a few friends to help out?
so I did, and we are now full to the brim and seven weeks open.
and next post I'll show you what we filled up the shop with.

CROCHET

I really admire people who can knit and crochet, probably because I can't do either to save my life!
Give me a hammer and nails,a pot of paint , some furniture to restore  or a sewing machine and I'm in my element .
I love crocheted lace on lovely linens.

Like these Huckaback towels

or a pure wool crocheted granny rug
I found on the weekend treasure hunt

NOoooo! This is not the same one .
This one is 8cms x 9 cms in size
and has been made with embroidery thread!
It is absolutely exquisite.
Some lucky dollhouse will be the proud owner of this one as I have listed it in my ebay store.
Oh well! back to the tool shed for me!

Willow Court Swapmeet

Last Sunday Willow Court Antique Centre and the Lions club of New Norfolk organised a Swapmeet on the Green behind the Willow Court Antique Centre .
The day started off rainy  but  lots of stalls were set up and customers started to arrive early looking for bargains.

This was about 7.30 am!!

There was a bit of everything from clothes to military items, fabric
furniture,books etc.etc.

Fortunately the sun came out and people poured in and we had a busy and successful day
and I didn't get chance to take many photos! Apart from the stalls there were many other attractions
A train ride for the children and a jumping castle /slide.

Lots of old engines and cars

These are there permanently on display at Willow Court which is looking very pretty
and some of the buildings ,now renovated are worth a look. The history around this area is older than Port Arthur .
There are now 8 antiques shops in New Norfolk and lots of other attractions in the area
well worth a days visit if you are over from the mainland on holiday or a local!

The Patchwork Cafe kept us all supplied with food and drinks and the coffee was very good.
so were all the lovely fabrics, buttons and pattern books that are also available

There was also a barbeque set up by the Lions club

we all went home with less than we took and the event is now going to be held on a twice yearly basis.
This was a well run event and I for one look forward to the next one.
So well done Willow Court and The Lions and Thank you.

I have been neglecting my blog lately, so time to catch up!
One of the reasons  is  I have reopened my etsy shop and have been making things to sell.

These tags are made from linen and decorated with cotton fabric, ribbon and trims, beads, vintage buttons
They are 10 cms x 6cms

on the reverse side there is a matching card tag to write on

some of them have a little pocket to pop a small present in or some money for the hard to buy for! or a candy cane to put on the Christmas tree!

I  have also been designing some patterns and kits but these need a little more work before they will be ready to show you.

When I get back in to the swing of things again I will do some tutorials also. Hope you'll join in?!

I love trying out some of the tutorials I find on blogs and think sharing ideas is good fun.

I bought this lovely kauri and cedar table last week, It really is a beauty.

It has pride of place in my section at the antique centre at present, which is looking a bit empty as I also did the swapmeet on Sunday and sold heaps of things! I'll tell you more about that next time.

back soon ---I promise!

A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS

I would like one of these that I saw today on gypsy brocante blog
http://gypsyfleamarket.blogspot.com

so that I could tuck  my poor, hard working car under one of these
for a well earned rest!
frederic klezmi  photographer

I would then go treasure hunting further afield using some of these that I found on vintage home blog to keep me cosy!

I would look for some of this

marsden bolts

and one (or two ) of these, actually make that---

carlos

as many of these mannequins  as I could find!

country living
Maybe a few industrial pieces, as I am really liking that style just now

http://duchessfare.blogspot.com

I found this photo on Margo's junking journal blog she 's having an industrial chic linky party--see the button in my sidebar to go there, there are some great pics.
I have actually got a work bench similar to this on my section at the antique centre and Shirley the owner has one bigger than mine!

Then I'd make my way home to my dear little house, where I would have a

nice long bath.
I would then invite you all round to view my treasures

we could have a few drinks and something yummy to eat
and if you had traveled a long way you could stay for the night
sharon lovell tree bed
night, night, sleep tight,dream on!

my apologies for not attributing some of these photos if they are yours please contact me and I will amend this oversite.
